Farm Wide Rotation Internship
Do you have an interest in agriculture? Are you passionate about local food systems? Interested in learning about the many behind the scenes operations of an agricultural business?
Morning Glory Farm is looking for a farm wide rotation intern to join their team! This intern will have a chance to explore the many departments and operations that happen at the farm. A custom work plan will be crafted where the applicant can work in different farm departments to hone in on their future career and educational goals. Departments available for the position: Greenhouse, Bakery, Vegetable Farm, Store sales, Flower Farm, Kitchen, Livestock and Post harvest. This position includes a check in with farm CEO Simon Athearn between each departmental assignment and where the applicant will receive a top view experience of running a multi-faceted business.
The intern will learn about the behind the scene operations of an agricultural business from farming to sales and everything in between. This will be an enriching opportunity for the intern to explore their interests and uncover their strengths, areas of growth and future goals.
About the Employer
Morning Glory Farm has been a haven of fresh and sustainable agriculture on Martha's Vineyard since 1975. Founded by James and Deborah Athearn, the farm is now run by the next generation of Athearns - Simon, Robyn, Meeghan, and Daniel. Morning Glory Farm is committed to ethical farming, using natural fertilizers and minimal pesticides to protect both the land and your health.
The farm grows about 70 acres of vegetables and small fruits, with crops including sweet corn, lettuce, carrots, beets, tomatoes, melons, potatoes, beans, squash, pumpkins, and more. Their herb garden supplies a full assortment of culinary herbs. The farm also includes four acres of cut flowers, and small plantings of strawberries, grapes, peaches, and beach plums.

Required skills:
An eagerness to learn
Strong interest in farming, food systems, and the many operations of an agricultural business
Adaptable—thrives in a constantly changing work environment
Able to take direction, show initiative, and work well in a team as well as independently
Must be able to work in a positive team environment
Must be able to lift 40-50 lbs on a regular basis and work long hours outdoors, standing, or lifting heavy items (physical demand will vary from department to department)

Compensation
Compensation: $17.50-$20.00 an hour depending on experience.

CAMP! Internship Program
BootCAMP!
CAMP! interns are required to participate in BootCAMP–a weekend of in-person professional development workshops and an orientation. Topics include leadership development, basics of financial wellness, workplace etiquette, etc. Upon completion, interns will receive a certificate of completion and a stipend. Exemptions may be permitted under exceptional circumstances.
When: Saturday, June 22 + Sunday, June 23, 2024
Location: In-person at Slough Farm in Edgartown, MA.

Mandatory check-ins
CAMP! interns are required to participate in three check-ins with the CAMP! program coordinator throughout the duration of the internship. This includes an initial meeting at the beginning of the internship program, a mid-way check-in, and an exit interview. During check-ins, interns will reflect on their personal and professional goals and accomplishments relating to their internship experience.
