Early Childhood and Elementary Education Internship
Do you love spending time with children? Are you interested in a career in early childhood or elementary education? Does planning daily camp activities and curriculum development sound exciting to you?
The Chilmark Community Center is looking for an early childhood and elementary education intern to join their team! This internship will provide the intern with experience and supervision working children ages 3-14 in a camp setting. The intern will learn how to plan programs, develop curriculum, manage groups of children at different developmental stages, set clear limits and provide logical consequences as well as how to implement and teach conflict resolution skills. The intern will also have the opportunity to work under the supervision of highly qualified teachers providing them with regular and thoughtful feedback and the exposure to the many career opportunities available in the field of education.
The Chilmark Community Center is a social center for the townspeople of Chilmark and the island of Martha’s Vineyard, summer visitors, and year-round residents alike. In July and August the Center hosts a variety of programs for children, their families, and adults that offers Playschool for children ages 3 to 5, a morning program with a full range of activities for kids ages 6 to 14, yoga and fitness classes & activities for adults, a tennis and sailing program for all ages, and an evening and weekend program of lectures, music, and special events.

Start date: Orientation on June 8 (online) + June 26-27 (in-person); July 1st start date
Hours: 20-25 hours/week
Duration: Late June - mid-August
Duties + Responsibilities
Work with program directors to help create and implement curriculum and daily activities
Supervise children
Attend weekly supervision meetings
Help with early morning (pre-camp) activities and evening activities as needed
Ensure safety and wellbeing of all children

Required skills:
Enjoys working with children
Works well in a team setting
Eager to engage in daily camp activities
Ability to share your expertise with campers in one or more specialized areas, such as but not limited to, sports, sailing, tennis, horse riding, arts, drama, music, dance, pottery, group games, STEAM, and photography
Bonus points for:
Previous experience working with children
CPR and/or first aid training
The ideal candidate has experience and enjoys working with children, understands their role in providing an inclusive and welcoming experience for all children, works collaboratively with other counselors, and is eager to participate in activities with campers daily.
Compensation
Compensation: $16-20/hour depending on candidate’s level of experience. There will be opportunities for growth in the summer program; there are many director positions that need to be filled every year.

CAMP! Internship Program
BootCAMP!
CAMP! interns are required to participate in BootCAMP–a weekend of in-person professional development workshops and an orientation. Topics include leadership development, basics of financial wellness, workplace etiquette, etc. Upon completion, interns will receive a certificate of completion and a stipend. Exemptions may be permitted under exceptional circumstances.
When: Saturday, June 22 + Sunday, June 23, 2024
Location: In-person at Slough Farm in Edgartown, MA.

Mandatory check-ins
CAMP! interns are required to participate in three check-ins with the CAMP! program coordinator throughout the duration of the internship. This includes an initial meeting at the beginning of the internship program, a mid-way check-in, and an exit interview. During check-ins, interns will reflect on their personal and professional goals and accomplishments relating to their internship experience.
